They have two children and three grandchildren that also reside in Georgetown. He has been a Deacon at St. Helen Catholic Church for eighteen years. Prior to serving at St. Helen, he worked as a carpenter in Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas. As a Deacon, he is the leader of Hispanic Ministry and Social Ministry. His role in the Social Ministry is to represent St. Helen Catholic Church in the Community. He is the representative of St. Helen at the Ministerial Alliance in Georgetown. He is also a Chaplain at St. David's Georgetown Hospital and the Williamson County Jail. He also ministers at the T. Don Hutto Detention Center in Taylor. He provides communion services on Saturdays at the center. He also served on the Georgetown Housing Advisory Committee in 2014-2015. Deacon Ruiz's interest in A Gift of Time stems from his experience with community caregivers needing help caring for a spouse living with dementia. Deacon Ruiz believes that there is a great need for an adult day care center in Georgetown and he wants to be a part of the solution to an identified problem facing our residents.
