What: Our unique Respite and Retreat Program uses the Montessori approach in designing our activities and focuses on rediscovering and supporting Dementia.

While your loved one participates in the Respite program, you may use your Gift of Time to run errands, spend time with friends, or catch up on your hobbies. You may also stay and participate in the day’s activities with your loved one or enjoy socialization with other caregivers in programming designed to help you unwind, relax, learn self-care strategies, or learn something new!

Our Dementia Education Coordinator designs the day's activities to promote engagement, socialization, and lifelong learning for those who choose to participate.

Our volunteer companions receive comprehensive training before taking their first assignment. They help each participant feel welcome and help guide them through the day’s program activities. They may enjoy each other’s company by simply sitting to visit quietly or playing a game together.

Sample Schedule

10:00 Drop off/ Coffee and snack

10:30 Memory Joggers, Reading 2 Connect, Puzzles

Why: While rewarding, caregiving for loved ones living with dementia can lead to stress, health issues, and burnout. Family caregivers should take a break from the day-to-day routine and time to themselves to recharge, attend appointments and have some alone time.

Participant Qualifications: A screening will be required for each participant. Participants must be able to self-toilet, eat without manual assistance and self-ambulate with or without assistive devices. Please see Respite Policies and Procedures for additional requirements.

If you have trouble with the form please get in touch with us at 512-489-0160 or info@agiftoftimegeorgetown.org.
